Our Story
Gallup & Stribling Orchids was established in 1954 in Carpinteria, California with humble beginnings and ambitious dreams. Aleck Stribling, a horticulturalist with a passion for orchids, was a skilled carpenter by trade and crafted wood-framed greenhouses to house his orchid collection. Aleck partnered with Emmet and Gary Gallup, a father and son with minds for business and orchid breeding. Together, Gallup and Stribling built one of the world’s most prized orchid collections.
In 1967, the Van Wingerden “Dutch Brothers” of the Netherlands immigrated to the United States. They settled in Carpinteria and became renowned nurserymen cultivating distinctive orchids, cut flowers, and produce.
Today, with the spirit of entrepreneurship, horticultural knowledge, and a passion for agriculture, father and son proprietors, Case and Alex Van Wingerden, proudly carry on the legacy of Gallup & Stribling Orchids.
